The answers will SHOCK you… because they are just that EASY!
First things first, sign up for https://www.aupairworld.com/en this was the BEST site I found. DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT, pay any money to an agency to become an aupair, that is simply absurd.
Read through Aupair World before creating your profile. Get a feel for things. I want you to take a piece of paper and write down your top 3 places you want to au pair. Then, open up the Aupair World website and search them. This will give you a great deal of information about how many hours you can legally work, the minimum pay you can get, and all the other rules about how to get a visa! Once you’ve read that, you’ll either be able to decide what country you want or be able to have a better idea of aupairing.
IT IS IMPORTANT TO RESEARCH THIS INFORMATION SO YOU CAN KNOW YOUR RIGHTS AND NEGOTIATE YOUR CONTRACT WITH YOUR FUTURE FAMILY
Now to your account. Go head and click on “Register as an Aupair”
WHERE DO YOU WANT TO WORK AS AN AUPAIR!?
This one you need to have an idea of. Do you want to go to a small town where no one will speak English and there will most likely be no other aupairs (this is great for the people that want to be emerged completely in their new culture and wants to be forced to learn the language!)? OR a big city where you’ll have a group of aupairs and will be able to speak your native language (but might not learn the language as easily because everyone will speak English)! Also think of how easy or hard it will be for you to get to the airport to travel, how easy is it to get into the city center, and what area of your country interests you! If you want to live in Rome DO NOT live an hour outside Rome (YOU WILL NEVER GET THERE DURING YOUR FREE TIME IN THE WEEK)!
YES OR NO
Then there are a few important YES OR NO questions you need answer. Trust me no one will know the answers except for the data team so they don’t pair you with the wrong family, so don’t worry.
These include:
Will you do housework?
Will you work for a single parent?
Do you mind if family members smoke?
Will you work with special needs?
I said NO to all of these except for the smoking. The reason I said no to most of these is because it WILL take more time than if you didn’t have to do it! So be honest because the last thing you want to do is set yourself up for failure.
WHAT AGE RANGE DO YOU LIKE?
Start to think about what age range you want to work with! Is it a baby you want to hangout with (this could mean your busy during the day but free at night), is it toddlers to elementary school kids, or some teenagers! Decide this off of what experience you have or try something new! However, please remember that these ages will mean you will have VERY different experiences from one another.
ALL ABOUT YOU
You will also need to fill out information stating:
Where you are from
Where you want to work
Are you mother tongue English?
PHOTOS (THIS STEP IS VERY IMPORTANT! REMEMBER FIRST IMPRESSIONS LAST!!)
Next, upload photos! Do not do selfies that you post on Snapchat with filters or instagram photos of you all dressed up to go clubbing. Also do not post serious photos where you aren’t smiling (these will be in personable to your future family). Post some photos from your last family vacation, some of you with friends, and some smiling photos of you on a hike or doing whatever hobby you enjoy. Post photos that are really you not ones that are used to impress the Instagram world.
INTRODUCTION
Now it is time to introduce yourself to the family with a letter! This “Profile Text” should be similar to a Cover Letter! After all this is just like any old job interview, brag about yourself, but do so in a humble way! Below I have listed some of the key points I highlighted in my AupairWorld Profile (that got me over 250 messages before I had to hide my profile to stop receiving requests so I could go through the interview process!)
Experience:
4 years of week away camp counseling
5 years Nannying
8 years Babysitting
1 year working at a LIVE IN Motocross Training Facility
Volunteering with Girl Scouts, Relay for Life, and at Elementary Schools
Why I am the perfect Au Pair?
“I believe that children are our future and that we need to invest in them. And for this reason I have loved working with children. Each child will be different so I will take time to learn their individual personality and how they go about life. I will adapt to their wants and needs while continuing to guide them to do what is right and how to behave correctly! I am not your “Normal Babysitter” that turns on the TV to distract the children and stay on my cell phone! I prefer taking the kids outside and interacting with them! (Day Dates are my favorite to do! As kids love it and it is nice to get away from the normal routine!!)
Why I want to be an Au Pair?
“I NEVER had the opportunity as a child to travel the world. I was a great kid but I was not cultured! While traveling the world as a teenager and young adult I have learned SO much culturally that I have expanded the way I think and THAT IS SO IMPORTANT! It is life changing to go to countries where they don’t have the luxuries that I have and the traditions I have. So I have decided that being an Au Pair will teach your kids a new culture but it will also show me a completely different culture. This is also why I want to be in Italy, my family heritage, and because it’s the perfect middle ground to head anywhere in Europe for me to learn new traditions, languages, food, and styles of living.”
Remember this is supposed to be fun!!
Enjoy the process and if you have ANY questions COMMENT BELOW or message me on Instagram @travelrichmoneypoor
